Den långsamma läsningens belöning

Jag infriar mitt nästan-nyårslöfte och ligger på soffan och läser, i korta pass, mycket långsamt, Virgina Woolfs "To the lighthouse".
Den långsamma läsningen är inte bara en principsak, nej, den är nödvändig: den här texten är inte enkel och lättläst, utan så sammansatt och så komplicerad, om man så vill, att snabbläsning vore meningslös. Belöningen, för att man tar sig tid och anstränger sig, är rik.

Man kan stanna upp, läsa om och begrunda och njuta av stycke efter stycke. Som här, där Lily Briscoe funderar:
"How then, she asked herself, did one know one thing or another thing about people, sealed as they were? Only like a bee, drawn by some sweetness or sharpness in the air intangible to touch or taste, one haunted the dome-shaped hive, ranged the wastes of the air over the countries of the world alone, and then haunted the hives with their murmurs and their stirrings; the hives wich were people."
